Fall Equinox Celebration!

Thursday, Sept. 22
5:30 pm Flow Yoga
7:00 pm Kirtan

Join us as we mark the equal day of sun and moon, with a traditional 108 rounds of Surya Namaskar. You can practice the entire sequence or work at your own pace. Feel free to finish your practice at any time or stick around through the end for a deeply relaxing guided meditation to tap the energies of this day of equal light and darkness. Class pass or $15 drop in fee.

We will follow our yoga practice with a soul jamming Kirtan with Dennis Hawk and Thunderhawk Kirtan Band. Kathleen will be banging on the drum and Cathy will be leading the response chants, so come on over and play. Kirtan is donation based. $10 suggested donation.

The significance of 108. Renowned mathematicians of Vedic culture viewed 108 as a number of the wholeness of existence. This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth: The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. Such phenomena have given rise to many examples of ritual significance. According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108 Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body. A yoga mala has 108 beads, plus the guru bead.
