CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Yoga Roots 101 The Basics
Recommended for folks with little or no experience. This level introduces the Vinyasa flow practice of sun salutations which are designed to open and strengthen every major muscle group in the body. This class also introduces the foundational standing poses as well as basic hip openers and weaves them into the flow of the sun salutation. Class will focus on breath technique, healthy alignment for the joints and concentration and focus of the mind. Students will learn basic anatomy of the body and breath. This class is designed to work with students of all ages, body types and varied degrees of flexibility. The course meets once a week for 4 weeks.
Foundational Yoga Roots
This class is a bridge to help the student make the transition from Basic class to deeper practice. At this level the student is presumed to have a basic understanding of the sun salutations and simple ujjayi breath technique. The vinyasa practice is broken down slowly, allowing the student to increase his or her strength and flexibility gradually. New postures are introduced regularly and basic postures are reinforced.
Yoga Roots
This class level is recommended for students who have taken classes regularly and have a regular home yoga practice or have prior yoga experience. Class focus is on developing strength, flexibility, stamina and concentration. At this level the student is presumed to have a basic understanding of the sun salutations, foundational postures and the ujjayi breathing technique. New variations of postures and technique will be introduced. In these sessions we will be exploring more advanced asanas and breathing techinques, as well as moving more deeply into the primary postures. Emphasis is on precision of alignment with awareness of the connection between the breath and the body during practice.
Restore Your Roots
This yoga class is for everyone. Even those who are practicing advanced levels of practice find this class fun and soothing. Classes will provide gentle yoga movements, relaxation techniques and breath for anyone with special needs and limited range of motion. Ideal for seniors, people with chronic pain and individuals recovering from an illness or injury, or for those who just enjoy taking things slowly.
Golden Yoga Roots
This class is designed for the senior student yet appropriate for all ages. In this class we take out the vinyasa flow but keep the posture work in place. Yoga postures are broken down and the use of props is explained and encouraged. Deep relaxation, breath work and long holds with a slow pace make this class a great way for all to deepen their yoga practice.
Ashtanga Yoga Roots
This class will take you through the primary series of Sri K. Patabi Jois. The primary series in the Astanga system is a challenging practice that will build strength, focus and stamina. It is designed to open up the front and back lines of the body and prepare the practitioner for the more advanced postures of the intermediate series. The Intermediate Series introduces students to more challenging back bending and arm balancing sequences. Challenging and fun! Check it out! Once a month we introduce the Second Series!
Mysore Style Practice
This is a self-led class. During the class time the teacher will help you in your own practice by offering you assistance and suggestions on the postures that you are focusing on. Use this class time to modify your practice, address difficulties and improve your postures. All levels are welcome to attend. You will love this class!
