This workshop will focus on how props help open the body and assist in creating more comfortable physical alignment in poses. Kathleen will demonstrate how yoga straps, sandbags, blankets, blocks, chairs and walls are used to provide a means for correcting anatomical positioning, as well as deepening poses for those already comfortable in their alignment. Ways to use props as a means for the body to reduce tension and strain in restorative poses will also be explored. New yoga students will appreciate the ease they will feel when practicing new poses, and those already familiar with the use of props will gain new tools to enhance our yoga practice.
BKS Iyengar developed a system of using wall ropes to help students open and strengthen their shoulders, back and core with the assistance of gravity. These ropes are also used to assist in alignment and balance. In this workshop we will combine the proper use of this rope system with the vinyasa tradition.
