How To Work with Yoga Props and Ropeswith Kathleen Kelly eryt500, yacep
Sunday, February 4, 1-4pm
This workshop will focus on how props help open the body and assist in creating more comfortable physical alignment in poses. Kathleen will demonstrate how yoga straps, sandbags, blankets, blocks, chairs and walls are used to provide a means for correcting anatomical positioning, as well as deepening poses for those already comfortable in their alignment. Ways to use props as a means for the body to reduce tension and strain in restorative poses will also be explored. New yoga students will appreciate the ease they will feel when practicing new poses, and those already familiar with the use of props will gain new tools to enhance our yoga practice.
BKS Iyengar developed a system of using wall ropes to help students open and strengthen their shoulders, back and core with the assistance of gravity. These ropes are also used to assist in alignment and balance. In this workshop we will combine the proper use of this rope system with the vinyasa tradition. Restorative/Yin Yogawith Karen Simcik 500ryt
Saturday, January 27 11am-noon
Yin yoga opens up the deep, dense, rarely touched tissue areas of the body.
Years of dedicated asana practice will make anyone healthier, stronger and more flexible, but at some point the muscles will have reached their limit of flexibility. New depths of postures, deeper ranges of motion, or increased flow of energy may only be achievable by focusing on the deeper tissues of the body. Yin yoga is the perfect complement and balance to more active yang practices, and stands as a practice all by itself. Postures are held for longer periods of time, and repeated for maximum effect. All are welcome to attend. |
